Janusz Brych

Saxophonist and flutist, professor at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. For many years a lecturer and assistant professor at the Academy of Music in Wrocław. He also taught instrumental classes at the Artistic Faculty of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. He is a graduate of the Jazz and Popular Music Department of the Music Academy in Katowice.

Multiple winner of individual and collective awards:

  • with the Jazz Trio from Nowa Sól at the Jazz Juniors Festival, special mention and individual prize; in the following year, 3rd place and individual prize;
  • with the Jazz Septet at Jazz Juniors, 1st place and individual prize;
  • 2nd place and individual prize with the Studio band at Jazz nad Odrą Festival;
  • with the Jazz Trio at the Festival International de Jazz in Dunkirk, special jury prize and 2nd prize in the actuel category, as well as an individual prize for the best soloist in the competition.

He played in the bands: Jazz Trio from Nowa Sól, Piotr Wojtasik's Quintet, Joachim Mencel's Quartet, Young Power, Jazz Septet, Salted Peanuts, New Salt, Jorgi Quartet, Lena Ledoff- Janusz Brych Trio, Zbigniew Czwojda's New Sami Swoi, Studio, Trzy Ścieżki, Kwartet A-2 and in orchestras: Alex Band, Zbigniew Górny Orchestra, Kukla Band, Orkiestra Poznań, Orkiestra Niskobudżetowa.

He has worked with: Peter Giger, Maria Schneider, Heinz Affolter, Slawomir Kulpowicz, Piotr Wojtasik, Joachim Mencel, Witold Rek, Krzysztof Popek, Marcin Jahr, Zbigniew Jaremko, Zbigniew Czwojda, Jose Torres, Janusz Strobel, Włodzimierz Nahorny, Krzysztof Majchrzak, Piotr Baron, Marek Dyjak.

He has performed at many festivals in Poland and abroad, including Jazz Jamboree, Solo Duo Trio, Jazz Juniors, Jazz Festival in Dunkirk, Jazz Festival Hoeilaart, Radio Multi Kulti Festival in Berlin, Festival of Four Cultures, festivals such as Nowa Tradycja, Skrzyżowanie Kultur, Rozstaje, Kolory Polski, Old Jazz Meeting "Złota Tarka", Warsaw Summer Jazz Days, Jazz nad Odrą Festival, Camerimage, Nowe Horyzonty, Festival of Stars in Międzyzdroje.

Highlights of his discography include albums: Welcome, Steps of Time in a duet New Salt, For the Future with Jazz Trio, Jazzy Positive with Salted Peanuts, Still swingin’ with Zbigniew Czwojda's Sami Swoi, Marek Dyjak’s OstatniaBurning Stones with Trylobity Group.

He can be heard in Janusz Brych & The Free Electrons project, the New Salt duo, the Jorgi Quartet, the Trylobity Group, Paweł Steczkowski's band, Wiesław Pieregorólka's Big Collective Band, Krzysztof Herdzin's Big-band, Tomek Szymusia's Orchestra, and occasionally in Adam Sztaba's Orchestra.
