  • Audiometric testing for sound recordists

Audiometric examinations are performed in the Chair of Musical Acoustics and Multimedia at UMFC, room 413. The examination is free of charge and takes about 40 minutes. The examinations will take place from May 22 to June 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. The examination date should be arranged by phone at 22 278 92 83 (Dean's Office of the Department of Sound Engineering). Registration is conducted daily, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please arrive approximately 10 minutes before the scheduled time.

Exposure to loud noises (including music) should be avoided on the day before the test. A good general state of health is required - some ailments or medications taken may negatively affect the test results. Those who have undergone audiometric tests in the past are asked to bring their results. You are encouraged to take advantage of earlier test dates. If necessary, the test can then be repeated.

  • Method of sending recordinds

All audio/video files should include the candidate in full form throughout the recording, with no close-ups, no moving images, and no editing within a single piece, with music clearly audible (if it is accompaniment); in good light to fully identify the person playing/singing/reciting/dancing. The recording shall include the candidate's introduction and information about the work (composer/author, title).
    Method of transmission of recordings:

    - Microsoft infrastructure will be used to transfer the recordings, within the private cloud leased by UMFC
    - on June 1, a message will appear on the IRK account of each candidate (those who have paid for recruitment and in the majors where the submission of the recording is required) with a link to stop the materials
    - after opening the link in a web browser, the candidate will be able to attach video files
    - before uploading the file, the candidate will have to sign the files with his/her name, in the same notation as in IRK, in addition, the recordings should be described (title of the work, composer, who performs)
    - if it is required to indicate the order in which the songs should be listened to, the candidate is obliged to number the recordings sent - the absence of this information means that the Commission makes its own choice. It is also necessary to indicate which track should be listened to (the candidate's own choice) if the candidate qualifies for the second stage (vocalist)
    - after the file transfer is completed, the candidate will be prompted accordingly
    - the link is active only until the end of the deadline for uploading the file(s)
    - each file can be stopped only once
    - the candidate will receive feedback to his/her email address and in the IRK system that the file is readable [this information in no way affects the grade of the file].

    Attention!
Each song must be recorded without cuts on one recording. Each recording must be uploaded with a separate link. Candidates whose recordings within one song will bear traces of any cuts or other alterations will not be admitted to the next stage of recruitment. The recording can be recorded using any video and audio recording device, such as a camcorder, webcam, smartphone, video recording device with an external microphone.

When recording the piece, it is important to be mindful of lighting, camera positioning and framing. Lighting should fall on the candidate primarily from the front, not the back. The camera should be positioned steadily and in such a way that the candidate and his entire range of motion, as well as the instrument, are visible in the frame throughout the recording. The video and audio recording device must be in the same place and position. Before making the recording, test the sound level - both the loudest and the quietest sounds must be adequately audible. If there is such a possibility, it is worth using an external microphone connected to the video recording device. It is unacceptable to make any adjustments after recording.

If, for reasons beyond the candidate's control, he or she cannot make a recording of a piece with a pianist, it is acceptable to make a recording with piano backing or solo. Organizational and technical details of the examinations conducted online will be communicated to candidates through the IRK system.
