Department of Vocal and Acting Studies

Responding the demand of the Polish and international music market, the Department of Vocal and Acting Studies combines the magnificent tradition of singers’ education with modern modified version of teaching programmes.

It prepares young artists for working at operas, operettas, music and musical theatres. The education also covers the implementation of the programme which equips graduates with skills allowing for concert activity related to various music forms, such as oratorio, song or cantata. The updated attitude also takes into consideration the needs of modern stage, which expects singers to be able to perfectly create believable and convincing stage characters.  Students have classes which include acting, prose, verse, diction, as well as style, gesture or dance.

The Department has for many years collaborated with the Grand Theatre – National Opera, Warsaw Chamber Opera, Theatre “Roma”, Theatre “Syrena”, numerous philharmonics and Polish stages. The Department of Vocal and Acting Studies has also established collaboration with various centres abroad – in Europe as well as in China, South Korea and Turkey. Its employees include teachers whose artistic and pedagogic achievements are undisputable.

The Department boasts with outstanding graduates who have leading positions on the world’s stages – they have won awards at international vocal competitions and then they performed leading roles on stages of the best opera theatres, such as: Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Metropolitan Opera in New York, Staatsoper in Vienna, or Opernhaus in Zurich.
