Elżbieta Tarnawska

She was a finalist of the 9th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 1975 and a laureate of the International Chopin Competition. M.Long-J. Thibaud in Paris in 1977.

She studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory (class of Prof. L. Umanska) and the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw with prof. Regina Smendzianka.

Postgraduate studies under the supervision of:

- Prof. Viktor Merzhanov and prof. Irina Rumyantseva from the Moscow Conservatory

- Prof. Monique Haas in Paris (French government scholarship)

- Prof. Eugen List in New York (Fulbright scholarship)

Doctoral studies at the University of Maryland (USA) in the class of prof. Dr. Nelita True.

She has performed recitals and with orchestras in all philharmonic halls in Poland, as well as in Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Portugal, Spain, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Russia, Romania, Lithuania, Hungary, Cuba and the United States.

After returning to Poland (in 1992), she continued her concert activities, combining it with teaching activities. She often performed at music schools, giving recitals, lectures and open lessons.

She took part in many festivals, including: in the Polish Piano Festival in Słupsk and the International Chopin Festival in Duszniki, in the Liszt Festival at the Catholic University in Washington, in Karlovy Vary and Marianske Lazne, in the Festival of Winners of International Music Competitions in Warsaw, in the Festival of Winners of International Music Competitions in Katowice, in the Festival Mozart at the Academy of Music in Warsaw, at the International Festival "Chopin in the Colors of Autumn" in Antonin.

She played under the baton of such conductors as: Jerzy Katlewicz, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Antoni Wit, Bogusław Madey, Tadeusz Strugała, Andrzej Markowski, Tomasz Bugaj, Marek Pijarowski, Józef Wiłkomirski, Tadeusz Wojciechowski, Zygmunt Rychert, Jerzy Salwarowski, Jerzy Swoboda, Stefan Marczyk, Witold Krzemieński, Zdzisław Szostak, Adam Natanek, Szymon Kawalla, Ryszard Dudek, Stefan Strahl, Karol Anbild, Zbigniew Goncerzewicz.

She has made archival radio, television and CD recordings.

She was the author and presenter of music programs on Polish Television in 1976-1977.

She participated as a juror in many piano competitions in Poland, Spain, Ukraine and in several editions of the International Chopin Piano Competition in New York.

Since 1993 he has been working at the Academy of Music. Fryderyk Chopin University of Music (currently the Chopin University of Music). Currently, she is employed as a associate professor at the Piano Department. In the 2005-2008 term, she served as vice-rector for student affairs and foreign contacts.

Elżbieta Tarnawska is also a professor at the Academy of Music. G. and K. Bacewicz in Łódź and vice-president of the Council for Artistic Education at the Minister of Culture.
