NEW CD Chopin University Press | Songs Paderewski, Żeleński, Niewiadomski, Maklakiewicz

Maria Wróblewska soprano, Urszula Iżbicka piano

“Marta Wróblewska’s vocal recital has a special meaning. The selection of eighteen songs by four Polish composers of the turn of Romanticism and Modernism is determined not only by the personal interests of the performer, who describes herself as a ‘sentimental soul’. One could even say that it was the songs that chose her and made themselves comfortable in the space of her voice. Her light, girlish soprano and sparing vibrato evoke associations with early music performance and correspond well with early Neo-Romantic songs. These songs are characterised by tender confessions and discreet references to Moniuszko and Chopin ‘ditties’, that is stylisations of court and folk music. In addition, among the works recorded on this album, there are some that touch on such themes as orphanhood and helplessness.” (Magdalena Gmajl, from a booklet note)

Marta Wróblewska is accompanied on the piano by Urszula Iżbicka.
