Prof. Romeo Smilkov is a distinguished Bulgarian pianist and pedagogue with an international career spanning more than four decades. A graduate of the National Music Academy “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” in Sofia, he further perfected his artistry in the masterclass of Prof. Vera Gornostaeva, Prof. Lyuba Encheva and Prof. Milena Mollova.

A laureate of numerous international competitions, including prize distinctions in Salerno, Razgrad, and the Liszt–Bartók Competition, he has performed in major international forums such as the Tokyo International Piano Competition, the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, and the Liszt Competition in Budapest. With over 1,000 concerts across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, his performance career reflects remarkable virtuosity and artistic depth.

Since 1991, Prof. Smilkov has been a devoted member of the faculty at the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts in Plovdiv, where he was appointed Associate Professor in 2008 and Professor of Piano in 2014. In addition to his active concert career, he regularly conducts international masterclasses and is the author of original piano works and transcriptions, contributing significantly to contemporary Bulgarian piano culture.
