An outstanding saxophonist, composer, arranger and teacher
It is with great sadness that we learned about the passing of the outstanding saxophonist, composer, arranger and tutor, Zbigniew Namysłowski. The legendary master of Polish jazz died on 7 February 2022, at the age of 82.
Zbigniew Namysłowski was one of the most renowned Polish jazzmen. A multiinstrumentalist: a cellist by education, a trombonist, alto and soprano saxophonist and flutist by choice, as well as a brilliant composer and arranger. [...] Initially he lived in Cracow, where he graduated from the State Music School in the class of piano. Having moved to Warsaw in 1954, he continued his education in the Secondary Music School in the cello class. He made his debut in 1955, performing as a jazz pianist during the concert of the Five Brothers group, which originated in the Hybrydy student club. It was the only performance of the band. [...] During the Jazz Jamboree ’59 festival, Namysłowski featured in two roles: as a trombonist in Modern Dixielanders and saxophonist of Modern Jazz Group. As the first Polish jazz musician, he recorded a record abroad. In 1967 the London record company Decca produced the record ‘Zbigniew Namysłowski Modern Jazz Group: Lola’. He took part in the production of a historic film ‘Kalatówki ’59’. In 1965 J. Berendt invited him to his documentary ‘Jazz aus Polen’ made for the West German Television. For many years Namysłowski has been the artist, who not only created new jazz stylistics, but also promoted the musicians, who in his groups, were achieving the greatest music experience (eg.:Cz. Bartkowski, L. Możdzer, S. Kulpowicz). [...] source: Biografia:Zbigniew Namysłowski: AVIP
I extend heartfelt condolences to the Family, Friends and Relatives.
