Arcadia Quartet (Ana Török – violin, Răsvan Dumitru – violin, Zsolt Török – viola, Traian Boală – cello) is one of the most esteemed Romanian string quartets of its generation. The ensemble was founded in 2006 at the “Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy in Cluj‑Napoca, where its members began their artistic collaboration. In its early years, the quartet received numerous prestigious awards, including at the International Chamber Music Competition in Hamburg (2009), the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition in London (2012), and the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition (2014).
The ensemble regularly performs on major stages around the world, such as the Wiener Musikverein, Berliner Konzerthaus, Wigmore Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and Pollack Hall in Montreal, as well as at festivals including the Budapest Spring Festival, George Enescu International Festival, and Aldeburgh Festival. In 2015, the Arcadia Quartet made its BBC Radio 3 debut with a live broadcast from Wigmore Hall and subsequently became the resident quartet at the “Tinerimea Română” National Art Center in Bucharest.
Arcadia Quartet is known for its deep commitment to the interpretation of 20th‑century music, especially the string quartets of Béla Bartók and the monumental cycle of 17 string quartets by Mieczysław Weinberg. Since 2017, the ensemble has collaborated with the Chandos label, releasing the complete Bartók quartets and several volumes of the Weinberg cycle, all highly praised by critics and awarded distinctions such as the German Critics’ Award and Diapason d’Or.
The ensemble’s activities also include educational work — the musicians run the Arcadia Chamber Music Classes, an annual masterclass program for young chamber ensembles, supporting the development of future generations of artists.
