Krzysztof Jakowicz is an outstanding Polish violinist, closely associated with the music of Witold Lutosławski, who entrusted him with the Polish premieres of all his works for violin. His interpretations have been highly acclaimed by the international press; The New York Times described him as a “titan of the violin.” He is a laureate of, among others, First Prize at the Eugène Ysaÿe International Violin Competition (1959) and Third Prize at the Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition (1962).
He has performed in the world’s leading concert halls with major orchestras and conductors and has appeared at prestigious festivals such as the Warsaw Autumn, Berliner Festspiele, and the Edinburgh Festival. For many years he was associated with the Warsaw Quintet, and for over a decade he has formed a violin duo with his son, Jakub Jakowicz.
He is Professor Emeritus of the Chopin University of Music and has served as a visiting professor at Soai University in Osaka, Japan. In 2016 he was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of the Chopin University of Music. A recipient of numerous artistic and state honors—including the Diapason d’Or, the Fryderyk Award, and the Gold Medal for Merit to Culture Gloria Artis—he has an extensive discography released by leading labels. He performs on Italian violins given to him by his mentor, Tadeusz Wroński.
In 2025, he was awarded the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Chopin University of Music.
