Chopin University Baroque Orchestra
Martyna Pastuszka - artistic director
The activities of the university's historical orchestra are closely linked to the history of the Department of Early Music and Harpsichord.
The Interdepartmental Early Music Studio began its activities in the 1996/1997 academic year under the direction of Dr Agata Sapiecha. In January 2014, it was renamed the Early Music Department, then the Interdepartmental Early Music Department, and finally, in 2019, it was approved as the Department of Early Music (currently the Department of Early Music and Harpsichord). From that moment on, the historical orchestra functioned as a compulsory subject for students of all specialisations coordinated by the Department and was led by, among others, Prof. Lilianna Stawarz and Dr Tomasz Pokrzywiński.
The Chopin University Baroque Orchestra was established as one of the UMFC ensembles in 2024 by His Magnificence Rector Prof. Tomasz Strahl. Dr Martyna Pastuszka, Professor at the UMFC, was appointed director of the ensemble, and the inaugural event of the Chopin University Baroque Orchestra was the concert “Bach, Vivaldi – double concertos”, which took place on 24 November 2024.
