The Department of Dance offers studies in the following specialties: Ballet Pedagogy, Contemporary Dance and Choreography and Theory of Dance.
Ballet Pedagogy, intramural 1st cycle studies. The specialty includes a group of classes in dance techniques, forms and styles, dance composition rules, ballet literature, rhythmics, history of dance, human anatomy and physiology, basics of dance biomechanics, Laban movement analysis, basics of didactics, voice production and didactics of classical, contemporary, folk, characteristic and historical dance and ballet literature. Having met the requirements defined in the curriculum, students obtain teaching qualifications in compliance with the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of 25 July 2019 on the standard of education preparing for the teaching profession.
Ballet Pedagogy, intramural 2nd cycle studies. The specialty includes a group of classes in the area of classical and contemporary dance, Polish national dances, characteristic and historical dance, ballet literature and dance partnership. The curriculum also includes dance and ballet of the 20th and 21st centuries, choreography, criticism of dance and ballet work, propaedeutics of culture management, dramaturgy, staging and directing of a performance.
Contemporary Dance, intramural 1st cycle studies
Performance-oriented specialty which includes a group of classes related to contemporary dance techniques – modern and contemporary, jazz dance, classical and neo-classical dance, improvisation, contact-improvisation, stage movement directing, Laban movement analysis, dance composition rules, acting techniques, history of dance of the 20th and 21st centuries, human anatomy and physiology, dance theory and notation, basics of dance biomechanics, history of music with literature, analysis of choreographic work, knowledge of stage performance.
Choreography and Theory of Dance, extramural 2nd cycle studies
The specialty includes a group of classes in choreography, improvisation, analysis of choreographic work, music and movement analysis of a music piece, seminar in work with composer, seminar in work with ensemble, dramaturgy, and staging and directing of a choreographic work. The curriculum includes classical and neo-classical dance with composition, modern and contemporary dance with composition, jazz dance and modern dance forms with composition, national Polish and other nations’ dances with composition, whereas the group of theoretical classes includes the history of the art of dance of the 20th and 21st centuries, choreology and dance theories.
The Department of Dance’s teaching staff members represent different areas of art and science. They are graduates from Polish and foreign institutions, outstanding artists, choreographers and theoreticians with multiple years of academic, artistic and teaching experience. Classes are also taught by renowned specialists from abroad, such as: prof. Elena Zabalkanskaya from the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet in St. Petersburg, prof. Lyudmila Serezhnikova from Culture Academy in St. Petersburg; prof. Tomas Lund from Royal Dance Academy in Copenhagen; Juhasz Zsolt, artistic manager of the ensemble Duna in Budapest; Anatoly Borzov, teacher at the Igor Moiseyev Ensemble, long-term head of the Chair of National Dance at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) in Moscow, Dean of the Faculty of Dance at the N. Nesterova University in Moscow.
